Ok but nothing special
Having read the other reviews, the descriptions do not reflect my experience of this establishment. I have always found the staff very friendly and helpful. The sausage rolls are very good, pork and black pudding is my personal favourite. The cakes are yummy, the Yorkshire Curd Tart is amongst the best that I have ever had - and I have had a few!
I've been here a few times now and had always liked it, it had lovely decor and music, I've often ignored little faults and mistakes because the atmosphere is just so calming however, who I assume is now a manager or supervisor has ruined it. She is rude and nasty and has a generally unpleasant demeanor. Whilst still having a scone and sat drinking minding my own business she scurried over with a dust pan and brush and proceeded to disrupt our peace and clamber over us, saying she had to do it as there's other customers, which made no sense, what do other customers care about crumbs on our table, and they wouldn't be there if the scone wasn't so crumbly, but we'd have cleared it best we can before we leave anyway so why interfer whilst we are relaxing, I don't know. Then recently she was absolutely horrible about my 2-3 year old because he was stood up on his seat, she aggressively stated she has no insurance, PLI would cover her if she has it but I was made to feel horrible, my child was just perched drawing in his wipeable book and is one of the most well behaved toddlers you'll ever meet. Before the horrid women had a go at us another customer even came over and had complimented us on how lovely our toddlers were. I have never been approached once, anywhere, for my toddler. My toddler nearly always says please and thank you even without prompt and had even done so when she'd brought their little drinks over but she was rude and completely blanked him when he'd said thank you on his own accord. I don't know a single person who would expect a 2-3 year old to sit perfectly still in an upright position but he was peacefully minding his own business on his seat not running around the place so I literally do not understand the mentality at all. I shall never go back now ever again, I would literally happily go anywhere than there.
My mother in law told me or rather warned me about this place. She had tried the fare twice, to be sure and thought it was not of a high standard. Finally managed to try it myself today. Very disappointed. The Costello steak pie looks good in the window and I should have allowed it to stay there! It was made from a suet type pastry and it had a soggy bottom. The taste of the pastry was poor. Having bought 3 different flapjacks too I thought things may improve. Sadly they were dry and needed a cuppa as an accompaniment. These items came in at around 6.50 and none of them were enjoyable. There are some decent places to buy baked goods in Pock... This is not one of them. :(
Oh my. Saw this place in passing and thought oh wow a new bakery! Lured by the sight of cakes and fresh pies in the window me and my lad ventured in. Me after a hard day repairing brakes on my car, him after his equally hard day playing and running in a playground. We entered and what results, beautifully stacked cakes and pies. We went mental. Pies and cakes... well in summary it was 2 slices of chocolate brownie, a slice of chocolate cake and 3 pies.... not much change from 14!! I could buy a weeks worth of stodge from Cooplands for less. But whatever, I thought it would be worth it. Now... distracted by a 7 year old during our visit, all items got bagged ready to go. Unfortunately I looked inside my sticky chocolate cake bag to be hugely disappointed... a less than 1 inch slice which costed me 2.50! What the actual deuce, that would make a single chocolate cake worth around over 30. Bloody rip off. I'm about to taste it....Nope. Dry, bland and yuck. School cookery classes would genuinely bang out better fare.Pies... nope. I had steak... Dry, non saucy and chewy (very chewy) meat. The lads chicken and mushroom wasn't half bad as was his brownie.Price wise... seriously just walk a few hundred metres to the next few bakeries, you'll save money and won't regret buying a small slither of cake for a lot of money for a disappointing flavour hit. It's like it's trying to be a bijou coffee house that's falling extremely short of the mark. My lads just binned his brownie. Enough said.
